There is widespread support for prevention, but organisations need practical ways of understanding how much of their existing spending is preventative and where that prevention happens. 

We are helping public bodies understand where their resources currently sit across different levels of prevention and where there may be opportunities to move investment further upstream. 

We have developed a budget mapping tool that aligns spending with prevention and well-being objectives.  

Our Future Generations Report recommends that prevention is embedded at the start of clinical pathways, alongside performance measures which support that shift. More broadly, our work seeks to increase preventative activity and investment and address the root causes of ill health and inequalities.

We support the development of Marmot Cymru, one of our recommendation, alongside work on the social model of health and the wider determinants of health. Future Generations Cymru is working with Welsh Government, Public Health Wales and the Institute for Health Equity on developing the Marmot Cymru approach and aligning it with the Well-being of Future Generations Act.
