This report summarises the findings and methodologies from two Strategic Foresight pilots conducted in with Public Services Boards (PSBs). To enable others to replicate the pilots, we have produced two facilitation guides that can be used to run similar foresight workshops.
The approach draws on strategic foresight research led by Dr Laura De Vito (University of the West of England), which shows how incorporating long-term perspectives can strengthen decision-making for sustainable futures.
The research underpinning the pilots demonstrates the value of future-oriented evidence as a complementary input to policymaking, helping decision-makers navigate uncertainty, anticipate emerging challenges, and make more informed choices to improve the well-being of current and future generations. This work was developed through, and builds on, a longstanding collaboration between Dr De Vito, the Welsh Government, the Office of the Future Generations Commissioner for Wales, and the Hwb Dyfodol.
