Derek Walker, ahead of today’s Welsh Government Climate Resilience Summit, said:

“Welsh leaders need to show more ambition in the fight against the climate crisis and must make Wales more climate resilient in every decision they make.

As public sector leaders meet today after wildfires tore across Wales and as we face more extreme weather including flooding, we must see more climate adaptation across organisations so we’re all protected.

“The impacts of the climate and nature crisis are already being felt and will continue to increase.

“These changes will impact all of us, from how we stay comfortable and safe in our homes, to how we travel, to the food that is available and the cost, and their are opportunities for better lives if Wales takes decisive action.

Leaders including Welsh Government must do more to prepare, by using the evidence provided by the UK Climate Change Committee.

“They also need to take the right decisions for the sake of people and planet, work with their communities, and prioritise nature protection and restoration in the actions they take today, for a climate that has changed what our future will look like.”
