Derek Walker, Future Generations Commissioner for Wales’ statement in response to Sian Gwenllian MS:

“We welcome the Cabinet Minister’s commitment to bringing forward a Community Right to Buy Bill, a vital step towards giving people greater control over the places that matter most to them.

As highlighted in our call for action, communities across Wales risk losing valued assets such as pubs, parks and village halls without stronger rights and support. Empowering communities to take ownership will help protect these spaces, strengthen local economies and improve well-being for current and future generations.

Statement from Sian Gwenllian MS, Cabinet Minister for Local Government, Housing and Planning (9th June 2026).

“Thriving communities are the lifeblood of our nation, therefore I intend to bring forward a community right to buy Bill. This will make it easier for valued community assets, including buildings and land for housing, to be brought into community ownership.”
