“I am concerned by the limited emphasis given to climate change and nature in Welsh Government’s new Programme for Government.

The climate action we need to take will also make us healthier, richer and safer and while Welsh Government’s plan includes a number of welcome ambitions, it’s unclear both in the Programme for Government and Well-being Objectives how they connect to Wales’ long-term well-being goals, or how they will work together to address our interconnected challenges.

Improving health, strengthening communities, growing our economy and reducing inequality cannot be separated from restoring nature and responding to the climate emergency that is making all of us worse off in every way, are struggling to pay for heating your home or you send your child to school in a poor air quality neighbourhood.

I welcome the renewed commitment to review the Well-being of Future Generations Act, based on my recommendation, and look forward to contributing so we can strengthen this law and make sure we don’t miss any opportunity to improve people’s lives in Wales.

Climate action makes people’s lives better, and the climate emergency is no longer a tomorrow problem and the response needs to be all-encompassing.“
