How are we reducing our carbon footprint?

  • – A new flight policy which discourages flying in favour of other options to target business travel emissions
  • – Addressing digital footprint through deleting emails and documents from our cloud storage that are no longer needed, and changing the team’s default web browser to Ecosia which commits to planting a native tree for every 45 internet searches
  • – Introduced a voluntary pledge to reduce our personal impact through measures like no-meat Mondays, buying clothes second hand or using more active travel

Here are some of the predicted savings of the commitments we have made:

Reduction Initiative   Carbon Saving (tCO2e)  Year
Flight Policy    5.79   2023/4
Manage Spam Emails    0.08   2024/5
Web Browser Switch    0.12   2024/5
Eco-Literacy Training    14.59   2025/6

Ripple Africa

In years 1 and 2 we have been pleased to support Ripple Africa, making contributions to a project which led to carbon savings equivalent to our residual emissions.

The project replaces open fires in homes with cookstoves, reducing emissions and significantly increasing home safety including reducing burns in young children. Cookstoves are hand built, and women are taught how to construct them, leading to sustainable long-term change.

Ripple Africa also supports period dignity for girls who had otherwise relied on ‘boyfriends’ to give them money for period products.

The emissions reductions made by Ripple Africa are certified by the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC): 2022/23 and 2023/24
