You can write to the Future Generations Commissioner to highlight issues or concerns about where the Well-being of Future Generations Act is not being properly applied and as importantly, where the Act has helped you or when you want to tell us that a public body is doing a great job for future generations.

It is important to note, the Future Generations Commissioner…

• Is not an extra layer of appeal against decisions by public bodies.
• Cannot ask for decisions to be changed.
• Unlike some Commissioners, does not have case work or advocacy functions.
• Has a role to promote sustainable development and to work with public bodies and Public Services Boards on long term vision and action.

Here’s how the team will handle your correspondence:

• All correspondence will aimed to be responded in 20 working days from receiving your letter or email.
• The response will set out the Commissioner’s powers in relation to the issue raised, what can or can’t be done under the Act and highlight ways in which the office might be able to help.
• We will record and analyse all correspondence received to identify common issues or emerging themes that need attention, using the Commissioner’s powers under the Act.
