Commissioner’s Office

Derek Walker

Future Generations Commissioner for Wales

Previously CEO of Cwmpas, he worked to support people and communities to create jobs and strengthen communities, and changed the organisation’s focus to development that meets the needs of current generations without compromising the needs of future generations. He has also worked as Head of External Affairs at the Big Lottery Fund (Wales), as Head of Policy and Campaigns at the Wales TUC and was the first employee of Stonewall Cymru.

Jacob Ellis

Director: External Relations and Culture

Jacob is the Director for External Relations and Culture. His main responsibilities include advising senior stakeholders including Government Ministers to implement the Well-being of Future Generations Act. In 2019 he established the Future Generations Leadership Academy and has worked internationally to promote the world-leading legislation. He is Non-Executive Director of Literature Wales and Theatr Genedlaethol Cymru. He is a former BBC Wales Journalist and is a UN Foundation Next Generation Fellow for Future Generations.

Marie Brousseau-Navarro

Deputy Commissioner and Director for Health

Marie is our Deputy Commissioner and Director for Health. She ensures we comply with all requirements on our office and that we walk the talk in all aspects of corporate well-being. She has designed and leads on our health and well-being mission working with others to help reduce health inequalities, avoid preventable illnesses and help transform our approach to population health so that we all become healthier

Heledd Morgan

Director: Implementation & Impact

Heledd is the director responsible for our core mission, making sure the Well-being of Future Generations Act is applied effectively and with ambition by public bodies across Cymru. Heledd works with organisations to help them change practice and culture, meet the duties of the Act and share their impact. Heledd is from Carmarthenshire originally and speaks fluent Welsh. She now lives in Cardiff, where she enjoys walking in nature and spending time in the local community

Helen Nelson

Director: Strategic Planning and Climate & Nature

Helen Nelson is our Director of Strategic Planning, and also overseas the Climate and Nature mission. Originally from Aberdare, Helen now lives in Mumbles, spending 10 fab years in Ceredigion in between. She is a community councillor and enjoys getting out and about around Gower, including walking and swimming.

Louisa Neale

Director: People

Lou oversees all our office’s HR, employment law, learning & development, health, safety and facility’s needs. She also plays a leading role with equality, diversity and inclusion working in collaboration across the team. She is a Chartered Member of the CIPD and Corporate Governance qualified. Lou is passionate about reconfiguring the world of work to support, rather than destroy our planet.

Jonathan Tench

Director: Well-being Economy and Programmes

Jonny leads our Well-being Economy mission which includes involving the private sector in implementing Wales' well-being goals. He leads our Food Focus programme which promotes increasing access to affordable, healthy and sustainable diets across Wales. Jonny also supports the delivery of our Leadership Academy, supporting young people in Wales to develop skills and knowledge on sustainable development. He is a member of Cardiff's Technicolour choir.

Lisa Pitt

Director: Finance & IT

Lisa is our Director of Finance & IT. She is a chartered accountant with over 17 years finance experience. She worked in practise and industry before moving into public sector. Lisa is passionate about a healthier Wales. She volunteers with Diabetic Dragons – a charity group offering social events to young people living with diabetes in the Cwm Taf Morgannwg health board. She is also a follower of local neurodiversity support groups and is always delighted when strides are made on inclusivity and accessibility for a more equal Wales

Claire Rees

Lead: Communications

Claire is responsible for sharing our stories with the media, both locally and globally, and is our point of contact with journalists writing about the Act, the commissioner and our work. A former journalist of 10 years, she’s been working in PR since 2013 for charities, agencies and businesses. She’s a Welsh and Spanish learner, and an advocate for sustainable fashion - one of her favourite things is rummaging in charity shops.

Rhiannon Hardman

Policy Lead: Climate, Nature, Economy & Food

Rhiannon is supporting public bodies in Wales to go net zero by 2030 and to take action to address the climate and biodiversity emergencies. Her main areas of interest are housing and transport decarbonisation including getting her own life on track to net zero. Rhiannon lives in Cardiff with her husband and two eco-warrior kids. “There is no PLANet B!”

Petranka Malcheva

Policy Lead: Health, long-term thinking, prevention

Pep is our office's policy lead for Health, Long-term thinking and Prevention, aiming to make Wales the most futures-literate nation in the world through the development of Hwb Dyfodol. Pep is passionate about getting people to imagine and build more hopeful and fairer futures together.

Korina Tsioni

Programme Lead: Future Generations Leadership Academy

Korina focuses on the Future Leaders Academy work, and is passionate about social justice and learning innovation. Through the programme, young leaders from all backgrounds fully understand the architecture and good application of the Act. They graduate with the knowledge, skills and support they need to apply the Act in all they do, and to face the challenges along the way. Korina volunteers as a Trustee. She also loves nature and culture. She runs multi-cultural events that combine all forms of art - and works as musician and dancer.

Rebecca Leyla

Future Leaders Academy Support

Rebecca is the 2024-2025 Future Leaders Academy support. She also works for the Welsh Centre for International Affairs (WCIA) assisting Academi Heddwch Cymru, Wales’ first peace research and education institute where she facilitates training across Wales and through global partnerships. In her free time, Rebecca loves to cook for her community in Cardiff, especially recipes from her Iranian heritage. She is passionate about intercultural dialogue and creating sustainable long-lasting change that will make our world a little kinder.

Sandy Clubb

Policy Advisor: Involvement, Collaboration, Culture

Sandy works with the whole team to ensure that our work is informed by meaningful conversations and that we engage with people from a wide variety of backgrounds across Wales. Outside of work Sandy is active with a number of community and environmental groups, and volunteers as a befriender. Sandy loves to be outdoors and close to nature, cycling, running or walking with friends and family and is a serial instigator of book clubs.

Colleen Cluett

Sustainable Development Advisor

Colleen works to improve the implementation and impact of the WFG Act especially in the areas of Climate and Nature. Colleen loves to learn about how we can do things better, now and for the future, and to apply that through all areas of her work and life.

Jenny McConnel

Sustainable Development Advisor

Jenny is working with public bodies and Public Service Boards across Mid and West Wales to help them deliver the Well-being act to the fullest. She is tracking the objectives of Public Bodies and Public Service Boards to review how they have changed in line with previous recommendations made by the Future Generations Office. Prior to joining the office, she has worked in both politics and social research in Wales, London and Brussels. Outside of work, Jenny enjoys hiking, surfing (badly), and going to gigs and exhibitions.

Alice Horn

Sustainable Development Advisor

Alice supports members of the team with research and analysis, particularly focusing on the delivery and follow-up of the Future Generations Commissioner for Wales’ first Section 20 Procurement Review. Alice is also working with the Office’s Change Maker Support team, building relationships with public bodies to ensure the interests of future generations are placed firmly at the heart of all they do. Alice is a Point of Contact for several public bodies in North Wales. In her spare time, Alice enjoys hiking, learning to cook new recipes, and traveling.

Najma Hashi

International Programme Coordinator

Najma works on our office's international programme which aims to promote Wales as a globally responsible nation and supports the implementation of equality, diversity and inclusion initiatives across the organisation. Najma is passionate about making Wales more equal and promoting global responsibility. Najma is a member of British Council's Wales Advisory Panel and a Director at Ffair Jobs CIC.

Natalie Jenkins

People Assistant

Natalie is our People Assistant, providing support to the office on all things HR, Learning & Development, and Recruitment. She also assists with administrative tasks for the wider office where required. With an extensive background in team working and office management, supporting other people to fulfil their roles and reach their potential is what Natalie enjoys doing the most.

Sang-Jin Park

Finance & Corporate Governance Officer

Originally from South Korea, Sang-Jin has lived in Wales since 2004. He has responsibility for finance and corporate governance. Much of Sang-Jin’s spare time is taken up with his two dogs & baking cakes. He’s also an enthusiastic practitioner of yoga.

Hollie Leslie

Communications Co-ordinator (correspondence, briefings and publications)

Hollie co-ordinates our monthly Cymru Can newsletter and responds to the variety of letters we receive from the public. Passionate about showcasing innovative and inspiring action from across Wales, Hollie also collects good examples of people embodying the WFG Act to share across our communications.

Mariyah Zaman

Communications Co-ordinator (website and social media)

Mariyah is our social media and website lead, responsible for creating social content that explains the Act and our work, in a simple way, collaborating with others and keeping our website up-to-date. A passionate champion for a more equal Wales, and freelance writer, she has also co-founded an independent media platform for and by Welsh Muslims called Now In A Minute Media.

Cara Rogers

Executive Assistant to the Future Generations Commissioner for Wales

Cara is the Executive Assistant to the Commissioner and is also responsibilities for coordinating translation and being the first point of contact to provide efficient and definitive support to the office. Cara is passionate about Culture and Welsh Language and currently sits on Urdd Gobaith Cymru Board, providing advice to inform the future strategy of the Urdd’s Residential Centres.

Audit and Risk Assurance Committee

Samer Karrar

Samer is a Senior Engineer with a specialism in the transportation sector. She brings a wealth of experience across the private and public sector, working on the design and implementation of sustainable transport solutions. Samer holds an MEng in Civil & Environmental Engineering from Cardiff University, an MSc in Environmental Policy & Regulation from the LSE.

Sabiha Azad

Sabiha works for the Welsh Refugee Council as a Coalition Coordinator. I am passionate about all areas of equality – moving away from crisis fighting to more sustainable, long term actions. I am a change-maker, dedicated to ensuring Wales is a equitable space, working with Welsh Government, Cardiff Youth Council, Women Against Violence Europe and the United Nations.

Princess Onyeanusi

Princess is a marketing strategist with a passion for making positive impact in the community. She has an MBA in marketing from University of Wales, Cardiff and 15 years’ experience in marketing and customer service sectors. She is a proud advocate of Equality, Diversity and Inclusion as well as a certified STEM ambassador. She has just completed her role as an observer on POBL Housing Association Board as part of the Pathway to Board programme and is a new board member on Taff Housing Association. She is also a member of the Black Activist Development Programme of the TUC.

Peter Davies

Peter’s career background is in the field of corporate responsibility working for the Confederation of British Industry, Department of Trade and Industry and Business in the Community.
He was appointed Vice Chair of the UK Sustainable Development Commission in 2006, later becoming Sustainable Futures Commissioner for Wales and chair of the Climate Change Commission for Wales, playing a key role in the development of the Wellbeing of Future Generations (Wales) Act.
He chaired Wales Council for Voluntary Action 2015-2022 & currently chairs the Dwr Cymru’s Independent Challenge group, Community Energy Pembrokeshire, Foundation for Democracy and Sustainable Development, co-chairs the Development Board for Nature Service Wales and is community custodian for Riversimple.

Mair Gwynant

Mair is a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales with over 30 years’ experience as a finance professional.
She spent 10 years as an auditor and consultant with Deloitte (and formerly Touche Ross) before progressing to hold a number of senior roles in both the public and private sectors, including the Welsh Government, the Welsh European Funding Office and the Wales Co-operative Centre.
She now runs her own consultancy practice providing a range of business development services to private, public, and third sector organisations, championing good governance, effective risk and financial management, and value for money.
She has served on executive boards for over ten years, focusing on finance, risk, governance and operational efficiency and effectiveness. She is currently chair of the Audit and Risk Committee for the Welsh Language Commissioner and is a trustee of the Hay Festival Foundation. She has served as a trustee of the Wales Council for Voluntary Action, chair of Social Investment (Cymru) Ltd, non-executive director of the Pen y Cymoedd Wind Farm Community Fund and trustee for the Money and Mental Health Policy Unit.
Mair is a fluent Welsh speaker and lives with her family in Cardiff.

Annmarie Thomas

Former Assistant Director of Workforce at Hywel Dda University Health Board. Chair of Governing Body Ysgol Llannon. Trailblazer Committee Member for Chiltern Music Therapy. Active volunteer for a range of community organisations including President of local Young Farmers’ Club and member of Fundraising Committee for the local Hospice.
