Public Bodies
There are currently 56 public bodies in Wales subject to the duties of the Act.
The Commissioner works with public bodies in a variety of ways. Their main duties are to:
The Commissioner also has power to carry out reviews into the extent that public bodies are meeting their duties and provide recommendations to them as a result. You can find more information about this here.
This means providing advice in many ways to encourage public bodies to apply the Act to their planning, decision-making and delivery, such as through producing resources in collaboration with them; providing written advice assessing the extent to which they’ve met their well-being objectives; working with them to carry out reviews; and providing intense support or training.
The work the Commissioner does at Government level is intended to help public bodies make the Act even easier to apply to everything they do.
Most of these public bodies also make up the membership of Public Services Boards. To help Public Bodies and other organisations progress on their journey towards sustainability as defined by the Act, our Ways of Working Progress Checker is a tool that can be used to help measure progress to date and on the next steps that may be needed apply the sustainability principle further.
